Dr Martens

Born in 1960, the classic Dr Martens boot was the union of the inventive genius of a German born inventer, Dr. Klaus Maertens and the Griggs family in England, makers of quality footwear for decades. The addition of Dr. Maertens 'air sole' (a sole made with air pockets to absorb shock in the foot) to a classic tall boot design was immediately adopted by factory and postal workers as the boot of choice - after all if you're on your feet all day then you want the most comfortable footwear you can get!

Very soon, the secret was out and the Dr Martens boot was adopted by the Skinhead movement in the early 60's, followed by mass adoption by a range of rock followers including Mods, glam, punks, ska, psychobillies, grebos, Goths, industrialists, nu-metal, hardcore, straight-edge, grunge, Britpop... the list goes on!

Dr Martens early boots were available in two colours - black and red... that's about as exciting as your choice of these boots came, however soon the demand grew for more colour and style choice, so now we have a massive variety of colours and designs, including Dr Martens boots for women, with embossed finishes and flourescent colours. The classic Dr Martens touches are still there, but nowadays you get all the choice you need in a boot which is uber comfortable, still with that famous 'Air Wair' sole.
